Episode 46 – Hot Mess

Episode 46 – Hot Mess (right click to download)

Man, oh man. What a rough labor. This episode should have been released this past Friday, but one of us was just sorta melting and oozing away thanks to food poisoning. It’s a big cause of death in India, we were told. Anyway, you can already imagine why this month’s episode is called Hot Mess… Haha enjoy that mental image.

Of course the original intention was a very different one. That’s why there’s a Lemmy tattoo on the cover there. One of us was graced with it shortly after his passing.

We are just gonna let the music speak for itself. There’s no need to, yet again, enunciate Lemmy’s merits and contributions.

Enjoy and FUCK OFF!

Episode 45 – Fitzcarraldo

Episode 45 – Fitzcarraldo (right click to download)

It’s a DJ’s cliché to say your set sounds like a “journey”, but fuck it, that’s exactly what SATAN MADE ME DO IT tries to achieve a lot of times. This episode is, we think, a fine example. It starts really slow, moody and easy, then building up, song after song, to a level of intensity that will reach its peak in the end and hopefully leave you feeling challenged. Dont’ take it too seriously, though.
We came up with this “climbing progression” when thinking about “Fitzcarraldo”, Werner Herzog’s movie from 1982 where the mad German director carried a 300 ton steamship over a hill in the Amazon. The movie production was almost “Apocalypse Now” stuff of legend. Go watch it.

Episode 44 – Black Vomit

Episode 44 – Black Vomit (right click to download)

That’s FIVE weeks since our last episode! That’s a first. So far, in almost two years doing SATAN MADE ME DO IT, we’ve skipped one week just once, on New Year’s Eve. We’ve been quite busy, though. First with our first SATAN MADE ME DO IT curated gig at Music Box with the supremely cool BAD GUYS. We can’t lie to you: it’s true; we’ve felt some kind of “post-event blues”. We just wanted to jump on stage and do it again. Then reality crashed in. Work to do, 9-to-5 jobs. A mess.

So, yeah, we’re late and we apologize for not providing you your biweekly dose of sonic prozac (WordPress tell us that Monday morning is your favorite time to pay us a visit, so we guess it’s a privilege to be your first source of energizing for the working week).

But guess what? We come with a vengeance. This episode is out there in terms of sheer aggression, speed and raw power. And we’re featuring a lot of fresh, 2015 stuff. So let’s just lock horns and be pals again. PLAY IT LOUD!

Episode 43 – Bad Guys Special

Episode 43 – Bad Guy Special (right click to download)

Hello friends! Nice of you to join us. How ya feelin’?

Allright, the time has come to shake things up a bit. We’ve brought some company for today’s episode: Bad Guys. Not just any bad guys. The Bad Guys, from London, England. They will pay us a visit real soon. Like, next month soon. November 20th. This little page will tell you all about it.

Now, we may be bastards, but we are a grateful bunch of bastards. Ask and you shall receive, they said. Thus this episode came to be.

Bad Guys sent us 4 tracks (one for each bad dude) from bands that influenced their sound in one way or another. They also sent us some commentary. It’s all audio and integrated on the episode. You’ve heard of radio? It’s like that, only cooler cause we can do whatever the fuck we want. And we did.

So besides having these modern day warriors choose some songs, we got some tracks of our own in there. Shit got wild. Wild west wild. Fuckin town sheriff would run for his dear ol’life if such a podcast would come charging in.

Wait, what’s that in the distance?

Hide the children. This ain’t a Halloween Special. It’s a Bad Guys Special. Fuck you!

Episode 42 – Legion of Horribles

Episode 42 – Legion of Horribles (right click to download)

The cruelest acts can rarely be put into words. They must be left to the realms of imagination. That’s where fear comes from too. No physical manifestation of horror can ever and will ever top our ability to create empires of the gruesome. Those who say fact trumps fiction, i.e. imagination, have never really tried hard enough. After all, the kingdoms of metaphysics are far less restrictive.

Today’s episode is an attempt to spark your creativity. We made it like a drug. To hook you is the entire point. And once you’re addicted there’s no escaping it. No morals to resort to, no time to go back, no place to hide. Your mind becomes your hell; your ideas, Satan himself.

Make the best of them.

Episode 41 – Family Happiness

Episode 41 – Familly Happiness (right click to download)

For quite some time now we haven’t released a really mean episode through and through. Maybe it has to do with the summer. The increasing daylight hours made us weak, perhaps. We’re ending it NOW. This episode will make afraid of your own shadow from start to finish. It’s so thick that Leatherface’s chainsaw wouldn’t be able to cut it through. It’s so loud you’ll want to listen to Delibes afterwards. This is where we separate the men from the boys and send away all the poseurs who THINK they like SATAN MADE ME DO IT. No more happy thoughts, no more warmth inside, no more singing along or wandering about. This one comes from our cold, dead hands.

Episode 38 – Strength Is Nothing

Episode 38 – Strength Is Nothing (right click to download)

We know we’ve just done it recently (see Episode 34 – Cross My Heart and Hope to Die), but we’re going for a slower tempo on this one. We just felt the need to, especially after three crazy days spinning records at VAGOS OPEN AIR festival. Hard as nails, those guys. They didn’t care at all for slower tracks or even faster NWOBHM songs. Those critters wanted to be fed on a strictly brutal diet consisting of thrash, death, black metal with just a dash of hardcore on top. Ahah, it was great fun and definitely we want to go back.

But hey, some people mistake speed for aggression and noise for violence. Not true. Music can be pretty vile and grim and dark and heavy when it’s cold, slow or distant too. It’s almost like the old argument: what are scarier, slow zombies, or fast zombies? Meh…

So press play and PLAY IT LOUD. And beware; it can get pretty emotional.

Episode 37 – Doomed Planet

Episode 37 – Doomed Planet (right click to download)

This one is a bit two sided. Yin and yang, light and shadow shit. Half black/thrash, half power/speed, apparently unable to get along, but in the end they came out as BFFs . Nothing planned, mind. It’s just we’ve been thinking about our next deejaying gig at VAGOS OPEN AIR festival – three nights, three different sets – and we’ll probably do something along these lines. Probably. Best way to find out: be there!

Episode 36 – Lay Down Your Arms

Episode 36 – Lay Down Your Arms (right click to download)

It’s funny, you know? There are plenty of non-metal people who admit listening to metal music. Now that’s just fine; such barriers have long been broken. We have written about this before. What’s interesting is not that these people listen to metal; it’s the metal they usually listen to. If you know a thing or two about music you’ll be very quick in confessing your love for the likes of Slayer, Napalm Death or Burzum. These three bands have some things in common: they all inspired genres other than metal and are generally archived under the “extreme metal” category.

Now ask those same people if they enjoy NWOBHM, Speed, Power, Glam – in general, the more traditional and “domesticated” metal genres – and see what happens (Maiden and Priest don’t count!). Even among head bangers it’s not infrequent to find people who have no love for these sounds.

If this episode doesn’t make you change your mind then you’ll continue leading a sad, sad existence. And we’ll show you no compassion. Good music has no boundaries.

NO DAWN IN LUCIFER’S LIGHT!
