Episode 35 – Kingdom of Darkness (right click to download)
If Sauron had won this would be his go-to soundtrack. We can already picture the orcs dancing and subsequently bashing each other in the head to the sound of this fine selection of tunes. See, we don’t believe Middle Earth would be much into folk if the armies of Mordor won the war. We think a careful mixture of thrash, death and black would be much more successful.
Of course, if Sauron did win we would all be dead, or worse. But that’s another story.
We’re dedicating this one to the memory of Christopher Lee.

It should be clear by now that most metalheads have piss poor taste in music, sound and production. Just take a look at the Metal Archives reviews for Von’s “Satanic Blood” demo. Laughable. There’s plenty of metal music out there that only punks should be allowed to listen to anyway.
We open up this episode with Körgull the Exterminator, another band that seems to be severely misinterpreted by bangers worldwide. Here is an outfit that deals in thrash, black and death in a completely care-free manner, leading to tracks with non-conventional structures and plenty of aggression. The “Dogs of War” LP possesses a beautifully sinister production which should appeal to fans of ‘85 Bathory and Poison.
BESTIAL FUCKING TIMES! Swallowed released one of last year’s greatest albums and we are still listening. These Fins change between fast, mid-paced and slow with an incredible ease and their sound is just perfect. They sound dangerous and ACTUALLY SCARY which is more than you can say about most (boring!) doom/death acts. Mandatory!
Couple of gems from Germany next. First is occult black/death outfit Alchemyst. We’ve been trying to find a spot to fit them in for quite some time. It’s a shame they chose to disband soon after releasing their first and only album in 2012. Such a promise they were, as you can confirm with “Kharon”. Classy reverb-drenched atmosphere for your pleasure!
The much more familiar one-guy-do-it-all The Ruins Of Beverast comes next with “Between Bronze Walls” from “Unlock the Shrine”, their (his) debut album from 2004. Slow, moody and doomy, “Between Bronze Walls” is a kinky piece who likes to flirt (dangerously) with emotional melodic goth stuff. Check the last segment; you’ll see what we mean. It sounds big and expansive without letting go of the lo-fi production. Only after we finished this episode it landed on us: there’s something here reminiscent of early Paradise Lost. No?
That gloomy last part kinda demanded that we took a more epic approach next. And there’s nothing epic-er than Bathory, is there? When the world ends at least one of us will be enjoying it all to the sound of this track. Makes the hairs on the back of the neck stand up. One of our goals with SATAN MADE ME DO IT is to introduce people to new and underplayed music. But sometimes we just can’t help it, sorry!
Deathhammer has a new album and being the reigning champions of deathrash that they are the end result is quite good! Have a little taste of greatness with “Omen of the Beast”. There’s the door if you don’t like it.
Not much to say here! It’s fucking Slayer! Over one year of SATAN MADE ME DO IT episodes and we managed to pick up Slayer only once (precisely on the first episode)! Quite an achievement, especially if we take into account the fact that, for one half of SATAN MADE ME DO IT, Slayer is probably the only life-lasting “favorite band in the world” he has (well, and maybe Celtic Frost). Maybe we’re mistaken, but we feel that “Aggressive Perfector” (we went for the “Reign in Blood” version) it’s probably one of their most underrated songs. And it probably is the tightest punk-influenced song they have ever released.
